How To Save And Restore Your Posts From Drafts

Let's say that you were working on a post when, you were called away, you simply lost your train of thought, or, you are posting from your phone, but would like to finish it later on your pc, etc., It happens, but let's say that you wanted to save your post, to continue it later on when you return, or remembered what you originally wanted to say.. so what do you do?

In this case, you simply click the button that says "Save As Draft."



As you can see, I was working on a topic, when I lost my train of thought, and decided to save my draft, so I can go back to it later. So, I clicked "Save As Draft" and I was taken to the following confirmation message.



Next, I decided to reply to another topic, when once again, I lost my train of thought and have to save my reply as a draft too.



So, once again, I clicked "Save As Draft" and I was taken to the following confirmation message.



What this does, is it saves your post as a draft, and it stores it in your User CP, where you can retrieve it later on.

This concludes the first part of saving your posts and topics as a draft. The following part will walk you through on how to restore them from the draft.

Now that we have covered saving your topic and post as a draft, let's talk about how we can restore them.

After each of these confirmation messages, you will automatically be taken back to the "Saved Drafts" section in your User CP.

Unless, you clicked the link that takes you back to the forum index, so, let's assume you did.

Let's say that after you got there, you immediately remembered what you wanted to say earlier and now, you need to go retrieve your drafts, so that you can post them.

To do this, you have to go to User CP > Miscellaneous > Saved Drafts

Once there, you should see this:



Note: Since the above screenshot cuts the menu off, here is what that menu looks like.



Now, since we saved the topic as a draft first, let's restore that first.

To do this, click the link next to the topic that says "Edit Draft"



Once you do this, you will be taken back to the section you were in originally when you started posting your thread.



As you can also see from the above screenshot, I have not only changed my post from the original screenshot in my last post, but I also changed the subject of this topic, because once it is posted, it will become part of a tutorial on how to save and restore your posts from drafts.

From here, you can post your topic, or, if once again you forgot what you wanted to say, or were called away, etc. simply click "Save As Draft" once again, to save your topic as a draft.

So now that we have covered saving and restoring your topic from a draft, let's move on to restoring your post from a draft.

To do this, once again, you have to go to User CP > Miscellaneous > Saved Drafts

Once there, you should see this:



Now, we since we already restored the topic, on your end, only the reply would be shown, and it should say Saved Drafts (1) however, because I am busy, I don't have the time to make another screenshot, so I am reusing this one.

To restore the drafted post, click the link that says "Edit Draft"

After you have clicked "Edit Draft" you will be taken to the "Post Reply" screen, and your restored draft, will added to the topic you were originally replying to.



As you can see, I changed the post in the original reply screenshot, because it will be part of a tutorial on how to restore both topics and replies from drafts.

From here, you can post as you normally would when replying to a topic, or, if you forgot what you wanted to say, you can always click "Save As Draft" once again, to re-save the post as a draft.
